Full consultations usually last 25-30 minutes and may include investigations such as ultrasound or Xray at the same time.
I am registered with the majority of Health Insurance providers, just obtain an authorisation from your insurer to be able to book a consultation.
During the consultation I will aim to understand your hand problem, how it affects you and reach a diagnosis to make a management plan. Sometimes additional investigations are necessary such as an MRI scan or nerve conduction test which we can book for you. We have on site Xray, Ultrasound and MRI scanning.
You will be advised in advance of the cost of any investigation or treatment that you are considering. I undertake all my consultations and operating at Practice Plus Group Hospital in Shepton Mallet. Parking is easy and free. Finance options are available for self-pay patients.
Depending on the condition that you present with, treatment may include injection, such as steroid, hyaluronic acid or platelet rich plasma, which can frequently be undertaken in the clinic under ultrasound guidance to ensure accurate placement.
If you choose to undergo surgery as the treatment for your condition then you will undergo an assessment on the same day to ensure that this can be safely undertaken in our hospital, taking into account any medical conditions that you may have, medications you take and the type of anaesthesia required. Our pre-op team of nurses and anaesthetists in the hand clinic will do this. Please bring a list of your medications with you.
I undertake surgery at Practice Plus Group Hospital in Shepton Mallet in Somerset UK. Larger procedures can be performed under regional anaesthesia with the arm numb, or general anaesthesia.
Practice Plus Group have fixed price costs for surgery - What that means is that you get a price up front and this includes the cost for the surgery and follow up appointments for example to remove sutures, provide splints and hand therapy if needed.
